About the Studio

Automation can go far.
The last mile is human.

Last Mile Human is an independent research studio dedicated to understanding the role of people in automated and AI-enabled systems.

We believe that understanding human behavior, cognition, and performance is essential to developing technology that works in the real world.

01 / Background

Built on research experience

Last Mile Human was founded by a researcher with over six years of experience conducting research for the automotive industry, including projects involving driver monitoring and advanced driver assistance systems.

The studio draws on an interdisciplinary background in cognitive science, psychology, and neuroinformatics, combining experimental methods, behavioral and psychophysiological measurements, and quantitative data analysis.

Its founder is currently completing a PhD in psychology at the University of Warsaw, investigating sleepiness and its effects on human functioning.

02 / Perspective

Technology is only part of the system

An automated system may perform exceptionally well under controlled conditions. But its real-world performance also depends on how people understand it, respond to it, and work alongside it.

Human attention fluctuates. Fatigue changes performance. Trust influences decisions. Automation reshapes the demands placed on its users.

These are not peripheral concerns. They are fundamental research questions.

03 / Approach

Curiosity, evidence, and rigor

Last Mile Human approaches human–technology interaction as an empirical research problem.

Our work emphasizes clear research questions, thoughtful experimental design, appropriate measurements, transparent analysis, and meaningful interpretation.

We are interested in collaborating with R&D teams, technology companies, and research organizations working at the intersection of human behavior and intelligent systems.
